New and existing City residents are being increasingly drawn to the services and amenities located in Alexandria’s Eisenhower Valley. This 4.5-mile east-west corridor, which parallels the City’s southern border along Cameron Run, is strategically located and home to a range of recreational facilities, restaurants, city services and entertainment options. A growing number of people call the Valley home, and there is also a strong business presence on the Avenue. City officials are hailing the Eisenhower Valley as the future “economic engine of Alexandria.”
According to City, retail space along Eisenhower Avenue is expected to include more than 250 additional businesses by the year 2020. This will include a mix of shopping, dining and entertainment retailers, making the Valley a true destination for residents who live there and neighbors who live nearby.
Today, the Hoffman Town Center is the focal point of the burgeoning entertainment district on the Avenue. The Town Center currently has the state-of-the-art 22-screen AMC Movie Theater with seats for more than 4000 viewers, Ruby Tuesday Restaurant, San Antonio Bar & Grill, Cold Stone Creamery, Starbucks, Bread and Chocolate European Café and Bakery and Ted's Montana Grill. Additional restaurants are slated to open soon. According to planners, the site will be “a year-round, outdoor promenade for families and people to gather, experience the arts and stroll at night."
The Eisenhower Valley has a number of recreational amenities that families, couples and individuals from all over the City enjoy. These include:
Cameron Run Regional Park, also known as Alexandria’s playground. A part of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, this recreation complex includes a water park, an innovative miniature golf course, a batting cage, two group picnic shelters, family picnicking and Lake Cook, which is stocked by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as part of its Urban Fishing Program. It is also the home of the Partnership’s annual “Mini Golf Classic” which benefits the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and the Partnership.
The Eisenhower Valley is home to over 6,250 Alexandria residents. Residences located in the Valley going east to west include:
Eisenhower Avenue is also home to two major universities -- Strayer University and Florida Tech Graduate Center. Three hotels are located on the Avenue – Homestead Studio Suites Hotel, Alexandria Courtyard by Marriott and The Holiday Inn-Eisenhower. The corridor currently includes nearly 3.7 million square feet of office space, 2.6 square feet of commercial space, and more than 400 businesses employing more than 25,000 employees. When fully built, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (PTO) is projected to bring 7,100 jobs and $6.4 million in annual net new tax revenue to the City.
